Stephen Amell sparked controversy yesterday when he expressed his viewpoint on the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, stating that he does not endorse the act of striking.

Speaking during a Q&A session with fans at Galaxycon in Raleigh, N.C., the actor shared his disagreements regarding the ongoing strike by fellow actors. He stated, "I do support my union, that's a given. I stand in solidarity with them. However, I don't align with the concept of striking. To me, it feels like a tactic that simplifies the negotiation process. I must admit, I find the entire situation to be quite exasperating. Especially when it comes to shows like the one I'm currently a part of, which premiered last night. I believe this viewpoint is somewhat narrow-minded."

Stephen Amell later took to Instagram to clarify his statements. He made it clear that his support for the actors' union remains unwavering and unconditional. He wrote, "It's important to understand that my support for the actors' union is steadfast. Striking, on the other hand, isn't something anyone relishes. It's a necessity we must embrace when circumstances demand it." Addressing his earlier comments characterizing striking as "frustrating" and a "simplistic negotiating ploy,"

Amell explained, "During the Q&A, I was speaking off the cuff for over an hour. I express emotions, but these issues are far from being straightforward. The responsibilities of our leadership are incredibly intricate, and I'm genuinely appreciative of their efforts. Despite my less-than-stellar early acting gigs, I assure you, I'm not a robot. While I grasp the rationale behind the strike intellectually, it doesn't negate the emotional frustration that pervades all parties involved."

Concluding his statement, he expressed, "It saddens me that we won't have the opportunity to commemorate a show that demanded immense dedication from all of us—both figuratively and, in my case, literally as well. For the foreseeable future, my allegiance remains with my union. If you encounter me on a picket line, please refrain from hurling any firm fruits my way."
